ANSiM Student Scientific Society

GENERAL INFORMATION

The Academy of Social and Medical Sciences – University of Applied Sciences actively supports and participates in the development of its students’ professional and academic interests. Students can deepen their knowledge and gain new experience and skills through participation in student organizations, such as scientific sections operating within the Student Scientific Society of WSNS. The outcomes of this activity include acquiring new skills, exchanging experiences in promoting knowledge and professional abilities, as well as developing social competencies. We want our students to believe that they can achieve success in life, not be afraid to pursue their ideas, and take their own initiatives in the academic and practical field..

The purpose of the Student Scientific Society of WSNS is to:

  • develop students’ interests and skills in the field of social sciences, medical sciences, and health sciences
  • support the development of individual student interests
  • support independent scientific and professional activity
  • integrate the student, academic, and professional communities
  • establish cooperation with other student organizations dealing with related topics

Any student of the University of Social Sciences in Lublin may become a member of the Society.

The following thematic sections operate within the Student Scientific Society of WSNS:

  • Social Sciences Section (academic supervisor: dr Sylwia Kowalska-Myśliwiecka)
  • Medical Sciences Section (academic supervisor: dr Agnieszka Łagowska-Batyra)

ACTIVITIES

Social Sciences Section

  1. Conducting research projects and presenting their results. As part of this activity, the following research topics were addressed:
    • Marriage and family in the opinion of students of the University of Social Sciences in Lublin
    • Advertising of tobacco products on the Polish market in the years 1990–2013
    • The impact of television advertising on children and adolescents
    • Students’ opinions on divorce, based on empirical research conducted at the University of Social Sciences in Lublin
    • Body cult in the opinion of female students of a post-secondary school for adults
    • Educational and career aspirations of lower secondary school students
    • Social bonds in cyberspace – the example of amateur photography groups
    • Is reading becoming obsolete? Based on questionnaire research conducted among students of the University of Social Sciences in Lublin
    • Reasons for the growing popularity of online shopping in Poland, based on questionnaire research among residents of the Lublin Voivodeship
    • Needs and motivations for achieving professional success
    • Eating habits of people working in corporations
    • Student travel – based on sociological research conducted among students of Lublin universities
    • Volunteering in the opinion of students of Lublin universities
    • Music festivals – a way of spending free time or a way of life?
    • The role of social networking sites in students’ lives
    • The image of women in press advertising. A comparative analysis of the magazines Pani Domu, Twój Styl, Polityka
    • Human behavior under stress, based on survey research conducted among participants preparing for a driving license exam

  2. Participation in scientific conferences and seminars, including: “Turn Your Charm and Inner Self into Success,” “Discover Your Value,” “Humans in the Perspective of Contemporary Civilizational Threats,” “Women in the Prism of Social and Medical Sciences,” “Social and Medical Problems of the Elderly,” “Social Sciences at the Threshold of the 21st Century,” “Advances in Social Sciences.”
  3. Organization of academic and social initiatives enabling students to gain additional knowledge and develop their interests and skills – open meetings, workshops.

  4. Development of cooperation with other organizations, scientific societies, and institutions, and promotion of the University in the social environment.

Medical Sciences Section

  1. Conducting research projects and presenting their results. As part of this activity, the following research topics were addressed:
    • in the field of dietetics:
      Dietary habits of children and adolescents; Problems of food intolerances and allergies; Contemporary trends in dietetics; Principles of nutrition and eating habits of elderly people; Diabetes as a disease of modern civilization; Leaky gut syndrome and its consequences; Nutrition under stress; Eating habits and physical activity of school-age children; Dietary management in celiac disease and gluten intolerance;
    • in the field of cosmetology:
      Lifestyle of pregnant women; Acne vulgaris as a cosmetic, medical, and social problem; The impact of UV radiation on the skin; Modern facial contouring methods; Skin pigmentation disorders – causes, management, and prevention; The role of diet, lifestyle, and supplementation in maintaining proper skin function and its appendages; Cosmetic treatments and substances delaying skin aging processes; Consumer awareness of cosmetic cream ingredients;
    • in the field of emergency medical services:
      History and current status of the National Emergency Medical Services in Poland; Emergency procedures in selected life-threatening conditions; Selected civilization diseases – risk factors, prevention methods, diagnostics, and treatment; Health threats among children and adolescents; Cardiovascular diseases – causes and management;

    • in the field of dental technology:
      Prosthetic stomatopathies; Contemporary dental techniques; Prevention in orthodontics; Contemporary problems of gerostomatology; Modern materials used in dental technology.

Participation of students in numerous trainings, including: “Genetic Diagnostics of Selected Food Intolerances in Dietetic Practice,” “D3 – the Vitamin of the Sun,” “The Gut – Our Second Brain,” “Sports Dietetics,” “Management of a Multi-Trauma Patient Referred to a Trauma Center in Emergency Department Conditions,” “Organization of the Emergency Medical Services System – Current Legal Status,” “Clinical Use of Hyperbaric Therapy,” “Diabetes – a Disease of Our Civilization as a Challenge for Paramedics, Dietitians, and Cosmetologists,” cosmetology training using Byas Sensation System products, “Bacteriological Threats and Infection Prevention in the Work of a Dental Technician” – DURR-DENTAL, certified orthodontic demonstrations: “Hyrax,” demonstrations “Ceramic Firing on Metal” – MARRODENT, “CAD/CAM Methods” – Denon Dental, “Organization and Role of Spa in Cosmetology,” “Hygiene and Safety of Cosmetic Procedures.”

  4. Participation of students in demonstrations and social initiatives, e.g.: “March for Life and Family,” “Parafiada,” emergency medical demonstrations in schools, kindergartens, and associations, cosmetology demonstrations in schools and at Education Fairs in Lublin, makeup and styling shows in Biłgoraj as part of the “Prom Night Emergency Service” initiative, providing makeup for actors in the charity performance “Seven Times Lublin,” the “Become an Honorary Blood Donor” campaign, University Open Days, etc.

  5. Participation of cosmetology students in the Young Talents Competition for the BLUE DIAMOND Cup (M. Bednara – 2011 – 1st place) and the Young Talents Competition for the RED DIAMOND Cup (K. Rak – 2016 – 3rd place).
